Lakewood Library Policies and Procedures
The Lakewood Library is open to all students, and their families daily from 8:00-3:00.
Early opening, or late closing times may be arranged with Mrs. Rogers.
Students obtaining a pass from the gym may come to the library between 7:20-7:40 each day. They may use that time to exchange books, work on the computers, take Reading Counts quizzes or read.
Students from Kindergarten to 6th grade come to the library each week to exchange books.
Kindergarten students receive instruction weekly in the form of stories and interactive lessons. First-6th grade receive instruction bi-weekly on topics including library and information skills, Language Arts, Social Studies and other curriculum related topics.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many books may my child check out from the library?
Students in Kindergarten check out 1 book per week. First Grade students check out 1 book 1st semester and 2 books 2nd semester. Students in 2nd-5th grade check out 2 books per week. Sixth Grade students check out 3 books. Any student may check out more books with teacher permission.
How long may my child keep the books?
Students in Kindergarten-5th Grade keep their books for one week, 6th graders have a 2 week check out term.
What if my child is not finished with their book at that time?
Students are able to recheck their books for additional weeks, as long as they bring their book to the library with them to do so. Students may receive small trinkets, prizes and privileges for returning their books on time!
What if my child has an overdue book?
We do not charge overdue fines, however students with overdue materials on their account will be limited in their ability to check out new materials. At the end of each semester, all overdue items must be cleared.
What if my child's book should be lost, or damaged?
Students are responsible for the books checked out to them. If a book should be lost, replacement cost will need to be paid. If the book is then found, money will be refunded. Books that are damaged, and may no longer be circulated, must also be paid for. These fees must be paid in cash only, and can be made in weekly installments. See Mrs. Rogers for special arrangements for payment.
Are parents able to check out from the Lakewood Library?
Absolutely! Contact Mrs. Rogers to arrange a time to visit the library and get your own Lakewood Library Card. Parents are able to check out 5 books at a time, for a loan period of 2 weeks.
